Tips For AltaVista Search Engine

For active discussions and current information, visit the "DISCUSSION FORUM.
Open window to AltaVistaAltaVista. AltaVista takes advantage of the META Description Tag when indexing a Web site.

On June 17, 2003 FAST acquired AltaVista's enterprise search business from Overture who had purchased AltaVista earlier that year on April 28, 2003. But on Oct. 7, 2003 Yahoo! purchased Overture. It is reported by Yahoo! that Overture.com owned and operated AltaVista, alltheweb and Inktomi prior to the purchase. Although AltaVista displays a copyright by Overture at the bottom of their Web page, Yahoo! owns and operates Overture. Now with Yahoo! running Overture it appears that Yahoo! is in the driver's seat for all these engines. This is Yahoo!'s answer to directly compete with Google's search engine.

General Information:

The AltaVista search engine starts by spidering the Web page you submitted with its spider Slurp. Slurp may take up to three months to spider and index your entire site, but will usually index your submitted Web page within a day or two. The more popular your site, the more frequent it will be updated. Your best bet is to submit your pages using Easy Submit at the rate of no more than 30 per week. However, when you submit your 50th page under one subdirectory you will trigger a "spam alert" and you will be visited by human eyes at AltaVista - be very careful to avoid the appearance of spam. We also suggest you do not resubmit the same page twice in any given week.

The AltaVista indexer gives higher priority for keywords located in certain Tags (TITLE Tags and META Description Tags). A higher priority is given for keywords that are located near the top of the page. AltaVista also gives a tad higher ranking for keywords appearing closer to each other on the page. Keyword density and popularity is an important factor with AltaVista. See also: Open window to Yahoo! META Tags Yahoo!'s Help (AltaVista's help is now redirected to Yahoo!'s network).

AltaVista has been the sentimental favorite of the pocket protector crowd for quite awhile because AltaVista is more predictable than Google and they allow the searcher much more advanced query building than that of most others. The original AltaVista was created out of a research project at Digital Equipment Corporations Research Laboratories in Palo Alto California USA, but that was then.

AltaVista incorporated their own version of Google's PageRank and in our opinion does it much better.

Rankings Priority Rundown:

1. Keyword or phrase appearing in the TITLE
2. Keyword or phrase appearing in the META Descriptoin Tag
3. Keyword or phrase appearing near the top of page
4. Individual keywords appear close together

- Document date of origin: Touch higher for the oldest pages.
- Document length. Longer documents tend to do better.

Special Tips:

There are also a couple of "human" eyes from AltaVista that will visit your site once you reach 100 urls submitted or 50 urls under any one subdirectory of a domain. These will read from the AltaVista digital domain but will be Mozilla browsers of unknown configuration. If you get visited by these browsers - you are being checked out by a human to make sure you are not spamming the AltaVista index and to compare the Slurp retrieved page with Mozilla retrieved page.

* WARNING *: If the robot retrieved Web page does not match the Mozilla retrieved page, your entire site can be black listed by AltaVista. (many search engines are starting to use this technique).

AltaVista limits your submissions to 5 pages per day.

Our Evaluation:
(Summary. strong points, weaknesses, criticism, recommendations to users etc.)

AltaVista seems to be a powerful search engine. Possible to limit searches to certain fields. Powerful boolean and proximity operators. Online manual is also extensive. Query structures are not limited, but in certain situations we have doubted performance in complex search statements. Harvesting program Slurp doesn't seem to index sites very deeply. Sometimes AltaVista drops pages from it's index and after a while they reappear. You can get different results from simultaneous, exactly same searches. Mirror site databases are different from the main site.

Top Search Engine 2007

Why They Are Important:

For active discussions and current information

Research found that 99.9% of all those who go on-line to find something use one of these top search engines. It is these top search engines we will discuss in detail here. This doesn't mean the others are not important. In fact the more search engines you are on the better chance you have of someone finding you because all these search engines present results and rank results in different ways.

You may notice AOL, MSN, Excite, Webcrawler and other search engine names you are familiar with are not one of the search engines we list here. That's because these search engines don't actually have their own database. They fetch results from the major players like Yahoo! Web, Google, DMOZ (The ODP) and one or two other players.

If your Web site is not found among the first 100 results of a search engine query then the odds of your Web site being found are close to non-existent. Why? Most search engines only display the first 10 or 20 results to the keywords used to find something. When was the last time you clicked on "Next Ten" more than 3 or 4 times to find a Web site that contains the information you were looking for?

Let's face it, most humans are impatient. We want our information now! This section covers some of the major elements to consider when trying to get your Web site listed or indexed towards the top of any major search engine.

The higher their income, the more likely online individuals are to shop or retrieve product information online.

With a projected 1 billion people using the Internet worldwide by 2005 and a promising $5 trillion in Internet commerce, companies that find creative and global ways to be seen by their potential customers will win. It is very important these people find your Web site and that is what we hope to help you accomplish here.

Search Engines:

Now that we know how important it is to be listed in the major search engines, we need to discuss how this is done.

Basically there are two types of search engines, Robots and Search Directories:

Robots are programs that traverse the Web automatically. Some people call them Web Wanderers, Crawlers, or Spiders. If any of you have tried listing your Web site with search engines you may have found that most only want one thing, your Web address or URL. Most Spiders will then visit your URL to grab the information about your Web site that it needs in order to add your page or site to their index.

Search Directories such as Yahoo! index Web pages differently. Rather than having a Spider visit your Web site, Yahoo! requests that you supply them with the information yourself. After you submit to Yahoo!, they claim to manually view your Web site and decide whether or not to include you in their index. Those of you who own your OWN domain name may find yourself listed within 6 months. Those of you without your own domain name may not be listed at all.

Every search engine is different in what information it deems useful and pertinent to your Web site and none of them have an obligation to index you. This is the reason why you should know as much as possible about each search engine before submitting. What you know ahead of time could mean the difference between being found among the top 100 and not being found at all. The proceeding pages in this section will discuss these major search engines in detail.

Below you will find a very useful search engine relationship table that goes through each search engine and shows who the owner is, who powers the engine, where they get their results (main, paid and PPC).

One of the biggest things we hope you notice above is that Yahoo! is the dominant provider and owner. Not only do they own some of the top portals, but they also power many other sites. In addition they own Overture and as you can see from the Paid Results above, Overture is the dominant one here as well. PPC results are mostly powered by Google.

Web Page Analyzer

Analyzer Overview:
The most powerful search engine optimization tool ever!

If you are in a hurry or if you have already read about and understand how to use the Web Page Analyzer then you can click on the menu item that reads "Analyzing Your HTML" to directly access the Web Page Analyzer. If you have not already read this or would like to refresh your memory regarding the Web Page Analyzer, please review the following.

The Web Page Analyzer was developed for analyzing your Web pages to see if they are robot friendly, but it was also developed so you can analyze your competition's Web pages! Have you ever wondered why your competition is on top and you simply can't beat them at this search engine game? Well now you will have the upper hand because you'll know exactly what they're doing that you're not!

Don't confuse this with our free META Tag Analyzer. The Web Page Analyzer is a much more powerful tool. Sure it will do everything the META Tag Analyzer does, but we've added more advanced features for full page robot ranking analysis. Check out these features:

1. Full Web Page Analysis
* Has the ability to analyze Web pages written in virtually any language (Smoke Signals and Braille are not yet implemented)
* Checks the server for a valid robots.txt file to make sure robots have access to the document being processed. Also checks to make sure this file exists and is properly constructed
* Will provide the server type used when available
* Provides the Google PageRank™ of the URL being analyzed
* Provides the IP address of the Host computer and country of origin
* Provides the Organization responsible for the IP address
* Provides Site/Owner Information when available
* Provides information regarding the DATE the page was last modified (if server provides this information)
* Provides the charset information of the page (a must have for search engines)
* Provides language information of the page (extracted from META or the opening Lang=Tag)
* Provides total page size in kilobytes or bytes
* Checks for proper use of the HTML, HEAD and BODY Tags as well as provides warning messages if duplicates or unmatched pairs are found
* Full HTML Tag analysis which will provide warnings messages if extra or non-closing Tags are found in the entire document. Invalid HTML coding can certainly cause ranking problems
* Allows you to enter multiple search terms and have the program highlight your search terms in the entire document including hidden text that search engines see. Will also provide details regarding how many times your search term(s) were found in the document which may be indexable
* A new and unique calculation we call Total Search Term Character Density which is a keyword density calculation based on total characters. This gives another dimension to density calculations
* Provides Web page recommendations which may help increase your position in the robot type search engines

2. TITLE, META Description and META Keywords Tag Analysis
* Analysis of either META Tag can be turned on or off as needed since not all search engine consider all Tags
* Provides the total number of characters found in each Tag
* Checks for proper use of each Tag as well as provides warning messages if duplicates are found
* Will find duplicated words in each Tag (we call this Spam testing) and will display these words if found more than X number of times. (X is user defined and can be any number from 3 - 20)
* Allows you to enter multiple search terms and have the program highlight your search terms in each Tag. Will also provide details regarding how many times your search terms were found in these Tags which may be indexable
* Provides Tag recommendations which may help increase your position in the robot type search engines

3. IMG ALT TEXT Analysis
* Analysis of this area can be turned on or off as needed since not all search engine consider the IMG ALT Text
* Provides the total number of IMG ALT TEXT Tags found in the document which may be indexable
* Allows you to enter multiple search terms and have the program highlight your search terms in the IMG ALT Tags. Will also provide details regarding how many times your search terms were found in these Tags which may be indexable
* Provides IMG ALT TEXT recommendations which may help increase your position in the robot type search engines

4. Link Tag Analysis
* The WPA will distinguish all anchor text and highlight your search terms found in the anchor text. Keywords found in these Tags are important to search engines such as Google

5. Keyword Density Analysis
* Provides the total number of words found in the document
* Provides the keyword density of search terms found in the entire document
* Provides the keyword density of search terms found in the TITLE Tag as well as the density in relationship to the entire page
* Provides the keyword density of search terms found in the META Description Tag as the density in relationship to the entire page
* Provides the keyword density of search terms found in the META Keywords Tag as the density in relationship to the entire page
* Provides the keyword density of search terms found in the IMG ALT TEXT Tags as well as the density in relationship to the entire page
* Provides keyword recommendations which may help increase your position in the robot type search engines

Note: The Keyword Density Analyzer allows you to exclude specific areas of the Web page from being analyzed. Search engines such as Google do not consider META Tags when computing keyword density (relevancy), but does include certain IMG ALT Text. Scrub The Web and Yahoo! powered search engines do include the META Description Tag, but neither will include the META Keywords. This gives you great flexibility when analyzing and calculating density (a major component in calculating relevancy)!

6. Keyword Density Manipulizer
* The new and exclusive Keyword Density Manipulizer allows you to make changes to keywords and receive instant feedback of how those changes affect keyword densities without making any changes to the Web page being analyzed

7. Basic Example of a Robot Listing
* Just like our Meta Tag Analyzer we will display a sample of how the Web page may be displayed on the result pages of a robot type search engine
* Provides a direct link to our Easy Submit program where you can submit the page (once you feel it's ready of course)

8. How a Robot May See the Page
* Here is where the Web Page Analyzer shines. The Web Page Analyzer provides a human viewable version of what a robot sees when visiting the Web page. Hidden text, keyword positioning, font sizes, bold, anchor text and other HTML elements have a HUGE impact on the ranking factor of a Web page. The Web Page Analyzer very closely mimics how a real search engine sees your Web page. No other analyzer comes close to the power and accuracy of our Web Page Analyzer
* We provide background highlighting of specific areas (which are often hidden from humans) of the Web page so you can pinpoint these sections of the Web page without having to understand HTML
* The Web Page Analyzer will also highlight any search terms including phrases which may be indexable

Tools for making money on the Internet

* Adwords and Adsense
* Affiliations
* Site Build It!
* Autoresponders
* Banner Exchanges
* E-commerce
* E-zines
* Link Exchanges
* Mailing Lists
* Merchant Accounts
* Pay Per Click Advertising
* Submission Services and Software

Adwords and Adsense
These two Google programs are very popular ways to both advertise and make money on your website. Adwords are ads that you pay for each time someone clicks on your ad. You create Adwords ads based on keywords that you think people will type into the Google search engine, when looking for your product or service. When people search for your keywords, your ad appears on the right hand side of the search listings.
Adwords also appear on websites that are signed up in the Adsense program. Each time a visitor clicks on one of these ads, the advertiser pays an amount and the website owner collects part of that amount from Google. Some website owners make thousands of dollars a month from Adsense.
For more information, click one of the Google ads at the bottom of this page.

Affiliations
Affiliations are a good way to make money on the Internet. There are hundreds of affiliate programs available to choose from, representing many different kinds of products. The first, and probably most famous, affiliate program was Amazon.com's. The great thing about affiliate programs is that you don't need a product, or even a web site, to make money on the Internet. Many affiliate programs give you a web site to advertise, and that's really all there is to making money this way. Promote, promote, promote!
Things you should look for in an affiliate program are reporting capabilities (so you can see what sales you've made, what commissions are due you and whether they've been paid), multi-tier programs (so you can get paid commissions on the sales of affiliates that have purchased from you), and perhaps most importantly, contact information, should a question or problem arise. High commissions are a big bonus too.

Site Build It!
SBI! is more than a Web host. It's a one-of-a-kind blend of content, process and tools that drives success (domain name and hosting included). SBI! grows Top 3% Traffic Sites that generate substantial income... and freedom. Here's an easy way to build a successful website on your passion.

Autoresponders
Autoresponders can make your advertising efforts easier and more lucrative. With an autoresponder, when a potential customer wishes more information about your product, they are automatically sent an e-mail with all the pertinent information. Check out this report from our Valuable Knowledge section: E-Mail, Autoresponders, Information-on-Demand.
Some web hosting services provide autoresponders, or you can sign up with one of several free services (that add and advertisement) such as Getresponse.com or a pay service such as AWeber.

Banner Exchanges
Banner exchanges are a good way to attract visitors from other web sites. The idea is that you put a banner for another web site on one of your web pages in exchange for that site putting one of your banners on one of their pages. A good banner exchange program is run by WorldProfit.com.
Banners are cool, but in many ways links are better. People tend to be on guard when they click on a banner. You can position your site better with some well chosen words and a link.
Here are some free Banner makers available on the Internet
* angelfire.com/createabanner
* bannercreator
* crecon.com
* members.tripod.com/createabanner
* mediabuilder

E-commerce
E-commerce is what everybody's talking about these days. Basically it refers to setting up an electronic storefront. You can use forms or shopping carts to take your orders. It is best to accept credit cards or electronic checks for payment, but you can have the customer mail or fax an order in too.
The "Electronic Business Kit" offers Internet entrepreneurs an instant online business, which includes their own revenue-generating Web Commerce Site and an opportunity to make money three (3) ways. The Web Commerce Site is fully enabled with real-time, online credit card processing, toll-free 800 live operator service. AIS Media handles all order processing, product fulfillment and customer services.

E-zines
E-zines are electronic magazines or newsletters that get sent as e-mail to a list of subscribers. They usually except advertising, so this is a great way to promote your web site or product. In fact this method of advertising has become one of the best way to get targeted visitors to your web site. Just pick a newsletter that appeals to your intended audience. While we're on the subject, please sign up for our newsletter, What's new at about-the-web.com. A good book on this subject is The E-zine Marketing Machine.

Here are some Directories that list E-zines you might want to advertise in:
* BestEzines.com
* Ezine Adsource Directory
* Ezine Directory
* Ezine Directory Free Marketing News
* Ezine Search
* Ezine Seek
* Ezine Universe
* Ezines Plus
* Foxcities Ezine Directory

Mailing Lists
Mailing Lists are another way to advertise on the Internet. You must be careful when using these lists to make sure the people on the list want to receive email about the product or service you are advertising. Otherwise you might be guilty of Spamming which can get you banned from many servers.
However, it is an excellent idea to get people to sign up for something (a newsletter, free report, etc.) on your website, so that you can create a mailing list of people to send your offers to. Click here to learn how you can safely market to your clients with beautiful html email.

Link Exchanges
One advertising model is called a link exchange. This is where two or more web sites exchange advertising banners and/or links in order to promote each other's site. Some websites have taken this to an extreme. Links on sites with hundreds of links on a page are probably useless to you. Make sure your link will appear on a page on the site that will actually be found by visitors and is not buried on a list with too many other links.

Merchant Accounts
If you're selling things on the Internet, you can increase your sales by 30 to 50% by accepting credit cards and electronic checks. There are several ways to do this. You can set up a merchant account with your bank, you can set up a merchant account on line with a company such as QuickCommerce. This site uses the #1 merchant account provider Charge.com to sell it's Valuable Knowledge.

MERCHANT ACCOUNTS FOR THE LITTLE GUY - Even without a Merchant Account, you can start taking credit card orders online. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ClickBank. If you're selling just a few small ticket items, set up an account with 2checkout.com . They handle everything for you. Nothing to buy, no monthly fees, plus an affiliate program!

If you are a small business, a new business, an Internet Business, a Mail Order Business... If your credit is not so good, or have been turned down before, you'll be fighting a long uphill battle and you'll be paying extraordinary fees to obtain a Merchant Account... Until now! AIS Merchant Services makes getting a merchant account quick and easy.

Pay Per Click Advertising
A great way of getting qualified traffic to your website is to pay for small ads that appear alongside regular search listings on many search engines. This is called Pay Per Click advertising and typically costs advertisers somewhere between $.01 and $9.99 per click. Advertisers have considerable control over how much they spend and can even determine when and where their ads are displayed.

Here is a list of Pay Per Click search engines to advertise on:
* ABC Search
* Enhance Interactive
* goClick
* Google Adwords
* SearchFeed
* Yahoo! Search Marketing (formerly Overture)

Submission Services and Software
There are many submission services and programs that you can use to promote your site with. Most of these will submit your main URL to many search engines. You can also submit classified ads easily with these services or programs. A good service is MGAWEB's Super Submission.

How To How to Really Make Money on the Internet With an Amazon.com Affiliate Site

From Scott Allen,Your Guide to Entrepreneurs.

You've probably heard before a lot of hype about how much money you can make with affiliate programs. Maybe you've even set up a site yourself, only to find that after buying the domain, a few bucks a month in hosting, software or a web designer to design your site, etc., that the piddly affiliate fees hardly even covered your cost. Well, here's the hype-free way to really make money with an Amazon.com affiliate site. And it'll only take a day to make the site. The secret? Low cost, low effort.

Difficulty: Hard
Time Required: One day
Here's How:

1. If you don't already know it, learn some basic HTML. You have to do this to keep your costs down and still get what you want. Even if the site is basically laid out for you, you're going to need to know how to insert images, create hyperlinks, and do some basic text formatting. Our HTML Guide offers a free 10-week HTML class and a great collection of beginning HTML tutorials. Get over any anxiety you have about this. Just do it. You'll thank me for it later.
2. Decide on your topic. You're going to be doing product reviews and recommendations, so pick a topic that you enjoy and know something about. If you can't stay passionate about the topic, that will show, and it also won't hold your interest. Choose a narrow enough niche to be distinctive, e.g., bands from your city, left-handed guitarists, music for a certain kind of dancing, authors of a certain religion, books about arts & crafts, etc.
3. Choose your domain name. Make it keyword-rich, not clever. Think how people will find your site in the search engines. Here are some ideas (all available, by the way):
Music: BandsFromTexas.com, BandOutOfBoston.com, SouthpawGuitarists.com, ClassicPsychedelia.com, Non-Stop-Hip-Hop.com, Merengue-Music.com
Books: Mormon-Authors.com, Arts-and-Crafts-Books.com, Books-by-Stephen-King.com, ClassicBusinessBooks.com
Others: Best-Baby-Toys.com, MomsMags.com, FelliniMovies.com
4. Register your domain name. If you're not technically inclined at all, register your domain wherever you set up your hosting in step 5. Otherwise, you can save a few bucks by choosing a lower-cost provider. Not a big deal for one or two sites, but it can be for ten or twenty. I use GoDaddy, who have great domain management tools and are less than $10 a year. The least expensive I've found from a reputable source is 1&1, whose price is under $6 a year (last I checked).
5. Set up your web hosting. This is where most people get burned. For this kind of site, you do not need $10 a month web hosting! Check out Discount-Hosting.com for no-frills hosting with adequate functionality and bandwidth, for around $10 a year! If you want more features, or especially if you're planning to run multiple sites, see GeekHosting.com or Multidomain-Hosting.com.
6. Install weblog software. "Weblog, you say?" Yes. It will give your site all the structure you need, plus make it easy to quickly post new content. My pick is WordPress, which is open source (i.e., free), easy to install and use, and yet very powerful. Download it and follow their installation instructions. Turn on notifications to Weblogs.com and Blo.gs. In WordPress, this is under Options | RSS/RDF Feeds, Track-Ping-backs.
7. Make it pretty. Free templates for WordPress are available at Not That Ugly. Choose a style you like and then tweak it to suit your tastes and the theme of your site.
8. Set up categories. Most blog software allows you to create sub-categories to help organize your entries. This will help visitors narrow in even more specifically on their interests. For example, BandsFromTexas.com might have one group of categories for genre — rock, country, blues, etc. — and another for city of origin — Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, etc.
9. Sign up as an Amazon Associate. It's simple and free. Just visit Amazon and click on the Join Associates link at the bottom of the page (here's a direct link for your convenience). Your site should already have at least the basic setup done, even if you don't have any content there yet.
10. Create your blog posting bookmarks/links. There are two links that are going to be essential for you to make this easy. First is the blog posting link. In your blog software, on the posting page (see their instructions), at the bottom of the page there should be a "bookmarklet". Click on the link (and hold the mouse) and drag it up to your Links toolbar in your browser (assuming Internet Explorer), or your Favorites menu. This will allow you to blog a product with one mouse click.
11. Create your Amazon Build-A-Link bookmark/link. This will make it easy to build the link with your affiliate ID built in. Log in to Associates Central, look in the left navigation sidebar, go to Build-A-Link, and under Static Links, find Individual Items. Click and drag this onto your Links toolbar or Favorites menu.
12. Build your first link. Go to Amazon and find the product you want to review. Scroll down to Product Details and find the ASIN or ISBN. Double-click on the number itself to select it, then right-click and choose Copy. Click on your Amazon Build-A-Link link. Right-click in the search field and choose Paste. Change the selection from Served Link to You Host. Click Go. Your selection should show up. Click Get HTML. Choose the kind of link you want, select the highlighted text and copy it.
13. Blog your review. Now click on your blog posting link (Press It! by default in WordPress). If you're using WordPress, you should now see two pieces of link code in your posting form, the first one ending with "Associates Build-A-Link >< /a >". Delete through that point. The second part is a link to the product with your Amazon Associate ID built in. Now just write your product review, choose the appropriate categories for it, and hit Publish.
14. Build out your site. Before you promote your site, you want to have some substantial content there. Write several product reviews. Have at least 2-3 in each category you've created. You may also want to make a categories for articles, news, and commentary about your topic. The more content your site has, the better. And the great thing is that while you're writing all this, the search engines are getting notified automatically, assuming you turned on the notifications mentioned in step 6.
15. Promote your site. The best free way to do this is to communicate with other bloggers writing about similar topics, and to participate in online communities where your topic is discussed. See the Online Business Networking category for ideas, as well as the Internet Marketing category.

Tips:

1. You have to learn some basic HTML and basic concepts about running a web site. It's just not that hard. If you have to rely on purchased software, you won't be able to get exactly what you want, you won't know what to do when things go wrong, and you'll end up spending money you don't need to. Spend the time to learn it. It will be well worth the investment.
2. I slightly recommend music over books and other products, mainly because you can listen to the clips of an entire album in about 10 minutes and get a good enough feel for it (without buying it) to do a short review. If you have another topic that you're passionate about, great, but make sure you have a unique angle on the topic. People can get reviews about a lot of those consumer products anywhere. You need to give them a reason to come to your site.
3. To draw repeat visitors, create a newsletter. Frequency should depend on how often you're posting new content. Start with monthly. EZezine will let you send up to 1,000 messages a month for free, with no ads. By the time you exceed that, you should be able to justify paying for the service.
4. To pick up some extra pennies, sign up for Google AdSense. It probably won't generate a lot of revenue, but it's free to sign up and completely effortless to maintain.
5. Set reasonable expectations for earnings. You've only invested $20. You're going to make 5% on most products. That means that you need to sell $400 worth of stuff to make back your investment. To make $20 an hour, what you write must generate $400 worth of purchases. You get credit for other purchases made while at Amazon besides just the product you linked to, so it's not as hard as it may sound. It won't make you rich, but it's not hard to be profitable, and it builds over time.

Here's an excellent page describing realistic ways of making money on the Internet from your personal Web site - Work From Home. No "get rich quick" schemes. Just proven, reliable ways to to build an online business or use a Web site to expand your offline one.

The basis for building serious income is the high traffic. If your site only gets a few hundred visitors per month, as most of personal Web sites, you'll unlikely make more than pocket change.

Here are some ways of making money on the Internet from your personal Web site...

Banners
They were one of the first ways of making money from hobby Web sites, however they are not so popular now since most surfers don't even look at them. In fact, the click-through rate (the percentage of visitors who actually click on a banner) has steadily dropped, from around 5% 4 years ago to less than 0.5% now.

In the Traffic-Building volume of Make Your Site SELL! 2002 (the free ebook describing all possible ways of making money on the Internet), banners are called #1 "Time and Money Wasters." Save yourself months of poorly spent time. Read this essential manual first.

If you have highly relevant, cleverly designed banners, you can beat the odds. However, you need relatively high traffic to actually make more than pocket change. In fact, most banner advertising companies prefer to only pay for actual sales (even click throughs are no longer attractive, since many people click through because they are paid to, and not because they intend to buy anything).

Freebies
Under this category are things such as free lotto tickets and various games where you can win prizes. Often, these are implemented as pop-ups and are much more annoying than banners.

Affiliate programs
They pay you a percentage of the sales you generate for them, or for each visitor you send. This is one of the best ways of making money on the Internet. You don't have to spend time and energy creating your own product. And some of them pay 50% commission. See Affiliate programs for more information on building income from affiliate programs.

Google AdSense
This is one of the easiest ways of making money on the Internet for small and medium sites by displaying relevant, text-based ads from Google AdWords (Google's own advertising program) and receiving a share of the pay-per-click payment.

Other tools
There are many tools that can help you make some pretty big commissions without your visitors even realizing that you're building income from their visits.

For example, several search engines will pay you a few cents per search made from your Web site. If a few hundred people use your search box, you'll earn a few dollars a day - not bad for a few minutes of cut & paste a small line of code within the HTML of your Web page.

Selling a Product or Service
This is an obvious way of making money on the Internet. To succeed in it, you have to succeed at three points...

1. Develop a great product that is of interest to others on the Web.
2. Write a professional Web site designed to sell.
3. Attract targeted customers to the site.

Ken Evoy's Make Your Knowledge Sell! is a very useful ebook for those who want to get a piece of the e-commerce pie but don't know how to come up with a product. MYKS! shows you that your knowledge, life experience, specialized interest or hobby can be packaged into an information product ("infoproduct") that other people want and are surfing to find.

An infoproduct offers the best entry point into the world of making money on the Internet for most people. Absolutely everything is in MYKS!... from brainstorming to automating your order-processing. You need absolutely nothing else to succeed at selling what's in your brain.

For additional information on how to start selling online, see Selling on the Internet and Free Merchant Accounts. You'll also find there a list of 3rd party credit card processing companies - processing fees, extra costs and other details.

The Potential Breakup Aly & AJ Lyric

Oooooh, La da da da da da
La da da da da da
La da da da da da
It took too long
It took to long
It took too long for you to call back
And normally I would just forget that
Except for the fact it was my birthday
My stupid birthday

I played along
I played along
I played along
Rolled right off my back
But obviously my armor was cracked
What kind of a boyfriend would forget that?
Who would forget that?
The type of guy who doesn't see
What he has until she leaves
Don't let me go
Cause without me you know you're lost
Wise up now or pay the cost
Soon you will know

You're not living
'Til you're living, living with me
You're not winning
'Til you're winning, winning me
You're not getting
'Til you're getting, getting me
You're not living
'Til you're living, living for me

This is the potential breakup song
Our album needs just one
Oh baby please
Please tell me

We got along
We got along
We got along until you did that
Now all I want is just my stuff back
Do you get that?
Let me repeat that
I want my stuff back
You can send it in a box
[The Potential Breakup lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com]

I don't care
Just drop it off
I won't be home
Cause without me you know you're lost
Minus you, I'm better off
Soon you will know

You're not living
'Til you're living, living with me
You're not winning
'Til you're winning, winning me
You're not getting
'Til you're getting, getting to me
You're not living 'til you're living, living for me

You can try
You can try
You know that I'd know it'd be a lie
Without me you're gonna die
So you better think clearly, clearly
Before you nearly, nearly bust up the situation
That you're gonna miss dearly,dearly
Come on!

You're not living
'Til you're living, living with me
You're not winning
'Til you're winning, winning me
You're not getting
'Til you're getting, getting me
You're not living
'Til you're living, living for me

This is the potential breakup song
Our album needs just one
Oh baby please
Please, tell me

This is the potential make-up song
Please just admit you're wrong
Which will it be
Which will it be

Oooooh, La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la

Getting Started With Google Adwords

Know someone who does not google now and then? Probably not. Google is the gold standard in Internet search engines. There are many others out there, and many others that if an affiliate marketer you must give due attention. But nothing is more important to join marketers than anything they can learn about how Google works and how Google can work for them.

If a for-profit company, which is a publicly traded at the fair, Google makes billions of dollars per year. It also makes affiliate marketers billions of dollars per year.

But Google is a complex monster, and the success you achieve in affiliate marketing is directly related to how well you master each of the different areas of Google. Do not kid yourself, that's not the one day learning. But boy, does it pay off!

GOOGLE ADWORDS a piece of the pie
Many of you already know what Google Adwords. And some of you may be using all these in your own affiliate marketing activities. But it never hurts to make sure that you understand what Adwords and what is not.

Google Adwords is the most used and most profitable way of advertising on the Internet.

To put an immediate example of Adwords, looking at everything with Google. An example - search beach balls. The display pops up looking very familiar with the first page of the relevant material on the beach balls. This information is summarized and sources are cited and the link to find the information is the last line of the search.

Now look at the far right side of the page. You'll see a small number of ads for products or services or Web sites associated with beach balls (in the Google provision). These are Google Adwords and his written and posted by affiliate marketers who have paid a fee. Many product companies also use AdWords to advertise directly, so you really can not tell who the ad poster and the sale of the company or an affiliate marketer who has partnered with the company to sell.

The whole idea behind Adwords is the achievement of specific customers (who already seeking information on beach balls) which may be in the market for the product or service you are promoting.

Advertising with Google Adwords, because it produces potential customers who have already indicated an initial interest in your product.

Of course, there are many techniques and strategies for using Adwords and many ways to fine-tune your "campaigns" to the highest profits. The good news is that Google has for the process to get started in Adwords fairly simple. But keep in mind before you start to pay to advertise something on the Internet, you had a better overall understanding of what happens when a potential customer clicks on your ad and reaches the desired link. The best written, best Adwords position in the world will not do if you money if it has the customer a sub-par site.

Do not start your affiliate marketing company with AdWords. Start by understanding the entire business, researching the best products and promote the development of top-notch presales and sales approaches.

Register for an AdWords account
As I said, the process to get into Adwords is actually quite simple. It is even more so if you've done your homework and understand the big picture of affiliate marketing. Since Adwords is just one piece of the pie, you will be able to step-by-step instructions for creating your first ad.

Ga to http://adwords.google.com/select to get started. When you click the "Sign Up Now" button, you will be asked to write your first ad. Many people go through the creation of a "spotting" ad. You may or may not already have indicated products or affiliate partners who you want to advertise, so make your account by just filling in the blanks with false information, you can quickly get started. To remove this "ad" later.

You are now faced with two important questions: How much do you want to spend per day (average) and what is the maximum amount you are willing to pay each time someone clicks on your ad? Again, if you are entering false data, it really does not matter. But this will be very important decisions as you venture into the real world of Adwords.

You must decide how much money you're willing to pay for Adwords, by product and as a whole.

Your last step will be to choose a login, which is needed with a Google account. If you do not already have one, there are steps to follow to register. Now is the time to really dig in and learn all the ins and outs of how Adwords work. It may seem simple, but the profits are in the details.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a series of methods to improve the position of a website in search engine listings. The term also refers to an industry of consultants to facilitate the implementation of optimization projects on behalf of clients' sites.

The use of search engines, visitors can search to sites in different ways: via paid-for ads in the search engine results pages (SERPs), through third parties that have been included in the search engines, or via "organic" listings, which runs the results the current search engines users. SEO is primarily concerned with improving the visibility of a site in the organic search results.

High rankings in the organic search results can be targeted traffic to a site. Obtaining that traffic in a different way can be expensive. For particularly competitive terms, the cost per click can run several dollars, or more if pay per click advertising or banner advertising. For even moderately competitive terms the costs can vary from a few cents to several tens of dollars per visitor. Given these high costs and often makes sense for site owners to optimize their sites for organic search.

Not all sites have identical goals in mind when they optimize for search engines. Some sites are looking for any movement, and can be optimized for high scores for the common search phrase. This can be a bad marketing strategy for a company, because it can lead to a large volume of the low quality of research that costs money to handle, even limited success in business. The "shotgun approach" to optimize searches might work well for a site that has a broad interest, such as a periodical, a folder or a site that displays advertising revenue with a CPM model.

Other sites target a specific population groups with special needs or interests. Many companies try to optimize their sites for a large number of very specific keywords that indicate that a potential customer who is willing to their product. Focusing on the desired movement can generate more high sales leads, and less time-consuming research.

Profit with Google Adsense

What it really to Profit with Google Adsense

I like Google AdSense. He wears a nice piece of change on my income each month.
That said, I do not and will not be headed by those whose sites earn only through Google AdSense.

What happens if their AdSense accounts have been shut down by Google? It going to happen, and they left scrambling to replace lost revenue!

Do not believe me?
Click on your own site Google Adsense links or twice and see how quickly off your AdSense account. (No, not really!)

Does it make sense to a whole site around financial products to a few dollars on Adsense clicks, when you can earn up to $ 40 for a completed credit card application?

Not for me, it does not.
I use Google Adsense to supplement the income of my partner, not replace it.
In short, it comes to value. Value for you, where your visitors.
Sites that only in the Google AdSense revenue gain no real value of their real estate site.
It is also important for me that my visitors find information of value to them on my sites, and I do that by offering balanced product reviews and articles on the subject.
If after reading my material, they are not interested in the product range, then perhaps they will see an AdWords ad in their interest.
Placing Google Adsense on your site is a strategy that will cash in your pocket, even if your visitors do not buy.
However, in the same way you must be smart about choosing lucrative affiliate programs, you also want to do your homework as to the Google AdSense revenues.
So I was recently re-read some information about niche topics are underrepresented with a huge market.

One of the themes presented as a winner was' snakes'.
I found that difficult to believe, so I did my own research.
The term 'snakes' had 152857 searches on Overture and its partners in January, so yes, that's quite a large interest in' snakes'.
OK, but who is your market? Kids looking for snake pictures for a school project? People who want to buy snakes? Someone who wants to visit Snake River?
What Ga you selling? Hoses? The game, 'Snake'? A book about the $ 10 you a 15% commission? A $ 60 poster from allposters.com that you earn 30% commission seemed the best bet, but how many people want to pay $ 60 for posters snake?
For me, that's not enough interest or the potential for building a website on 'snakes'.

So, what about the inclusion of AdSense on expanding the potential profitability?
Well, searching Google for "snakes". See what comes up in the Google Adwords column?
Nothing!
If you want income with AdSense, you must choose subjects whose AdWords advertisers spend mega-dollars per click.

How do you find out what those issues are?
Easy!
If you have not already done so, open a Google AdWords account and make a new campaign. Include a list of words (a niche topic at a time), then click on 'Traffic'. On the next page shows the average cost per click for each keyword.
Make note of the most expensive words in that list and optimizing your pages for these phrases.

That is how you really gain in Google AdSense.
Warning! Warning! Warning!
If you have a lucrative topic that is projected to cost $ 36987.57 per day, do not forget to pause that campaign, or permanently delete! :-)
